The CNED program is designed to allow native or close to native French-speaking children who are attending US schools to keep up with their French education.
Who is it for?
This program is specifically designed for children (U.S. school grades 1st to 8th) who are native French speakers or have an equivalent level of mastery.
This program is for your child if:
-
They speak French with one or two parent(s) at home.
-
They previously attended school in a Francophone country.
-
They attended a French immersion program in the US or abroad.
This program is NOT for children learning French as a Foreign Language (beginners to intermediate). See our classes available for students here.
How does it work?
The Cned program requires adult guidance and supervision. It is is not a self-taught or autonomous program.
The Cned provides all the learning material, developed by the Ministry of French Education and based on their official curriculum for French Language Arts, as well as the evaluations during the year.
The rigorous Cned program requires the assistance of a qualified adult or professional educator to lead students through the programs. Our French-speaking teachers guide students in a private, semi-private or group setting, ensuring a comprehensive and interactive learning experience aligned with French national standards.
This program is designed to provide a rigorous French language education, similar to what students would experience in an accredited French school. This requires a strong commitment from both students and parents. We recommend parents honestly assess their ability to provide support with homework, and sometimes additional explanations even if they have been provided in class.
What we do
The AFSD offer an in-person program for native French-speaking students using the Cned curriculum.
We focus exclusively on the French language arts curriculum provided by Cned.
L’Alliance provides teachers who will offer their expertise and ensure students stay on track through weekly tutoring (3 to 5 hours a week for 32 weeks). Additionally, our teachers supervise and administer the evaluations (at least 7 evaluations each school year).
Program Information
Length: 32 weeks from September to June.
Schedule: 3 to 5 hours per week.
Level: CP (1st Grade) to 4ième (8th G)
Structure: 7 modules (4 weeks each).
Evaluations: 1 evaluation at the end of each module.
Provided by the Cned: Class material, homework assignments, online platform and grading.
How to register?
Register your child online, on the phone or in person.
Upon registration and when applicable, parents will have to provide a certificate of completion of previous school grade(s) completed in a Francophone country or a French immersion school in the US or abroad.
If necessary, a placement test can be administered by L’AFSD. We usually recommend enrolling students one grade level below if there’s any uncertainty about a child’s current French language proficiency.
