About the Event

Nirina Ralantoaritsimba is a French-Malagasy writer and researcher in French travel literature.

Her new essay En Californie les Français écrivent leur ruée vers l’or (In California, French People Write About Their Goldrush) about the French travel-writers in California during the goldrush resonates with her last novel, Nous sommes les ancêtres de ceux qui ne sont pas encore là (We Are The Ancestors of Those who are Not Here) published in 2017.

In both works, Nirina explores the notions of ancestry, roots and identity in the context of traveling to California. She will explain how her writings navigates between fiction and reality.
