About the Event
Let's celebrate 2025 together around delicious galettes made by The French Oven , apple cider, or soft drinks in a new location: the community room of the Pacific Highlands Ranch Library in Carmel Valley.
The galette des rois (The kings' cake) has been traditionally shared at Epiphany, on January 6, since the 13th century.
It celebrates the legend of the arrival of the Three Wise Men in Bethlehem.
Composed of a puff pastry cake with a small charm, the fève, hidden inside, it's usually filled with frangipane, a cream made from sweet almonds, butter, eggs, and sugar. The person who gets the "fève" becomes king or queen of the day!
Of course, the name was changed during the French Revolution to “Gâteau de l’égalité” as the word ‘king’ was a little out of fashion! Nowadays, it's an opportunity to gather and eat a yummy pastry cake :-)
