The San Diego French American School welcomes the Alliance Francaise de San Diego for its monthly French Film Club, supported by Ingrid Pasco.

Annie Colere (2022)

A countryside village in France, 1974. When she accidentally becomes pregnant, Annie, a working mother of two teenagers, meets with the Movement for the Liberation of Abortion and Contraception (MLAC); doctors and women who perform illegal abortions in the public eye, practicing a free, safe and respectful method. Gradually Annie will join their battle, which will bring a new meaning to her life.

"Bright and predominantly hopeful in tone, and powered by a typically lovable performance from recent César winner Laure Calamy (“Call My Agent”) as a meek wife and mother emboldened by an underground women’s movement, this is a less visceral, more crowdpleasing account of French abortion-rights history than Audrey Diwan’s celebrated “Happening” — which was set a decade earlier than Lenoir’s film, before much community around the cause had taken clear shape.
