About the Event

Search our comprehensive database to find out if it’s streaming in the US and where. Not sure what to watch (as long as it’s French!)? See what’s new and what’s popular from France, or browse our curated content – there’s a new themed collection every month. From the classics of the French New Wave to the latest series, the French page on Telescope is a home for fans of French film and TV.
August: Été 85 (2020) Director: François Ozon Starring: Félix Lefebvre, Benjamin Voisin, Philippine Velge, Valeria Bruni‑Tedeschi
While sailing, 16-year-old Alexis' boat capsizes during a storm, and he is rescued by 18-year-old David. Together, the pair form a tender friendship and romance blossoms in the warmth of the summer sun. But David soon reveals his darker side, asking Alexis to make a strange promise.
Bonus film: Une robe d'été/ A Summer Dress (1996) Director: François Ozon
A Summer Dress opens with the straitlaced Frédéric criticizing the more flamboyant Sébastien for incessantly prancing around their cabin while blasting his favorite '60s pop singer, Sheila. Frédéric bikes to the beach to escape and meets an older woman named Lucia who, without much conversation, leads him to a secluded spot where they have sex. Frédéric notices an onlooker during their lovemaking; when he returns to the beach, his clothes have been stolen. With no choice but to wear Lucia's spare dress, Sébastien prepares himself for an odd confrontation with Frédéric.
Discussions will take place on the fourth Monday of each month. Participants are encouraged to watch the film via streaming before attending the discussion.
