The DELF rewards preparation, not luck. Because the exam tests four distinct skills — listening (compréhension orale), reading (compréhension écrite), writing (production écrite), and speaking (production orale) — your study plan should train all four. Here's a practical roadmap plus the resources we recommend to our students.
Each DELF level (A1–B2) has a different format, timing, and scoring. Download the official sample papers for your level from France Éducation international (FEI) and read the examiner criteria. Knowing exactly what's expected removes half the stress before you even open a textbook.
| Weeks | Focus | Weekly routine (approx. 5–7 hours) |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Baseline & diagnosis | Take a full mock exam under timed conditions; identify your weakest skill |
| 3–6 | Skill building | 2 sessions on your weakest skill, 1 each on the others; 20 min/day of French listening (podcasts, TV5Monde) |
| 7–9 | Exam technique | Timed practice of one exam section per session; learn the writing structures expected (e.g. informal letter at B1, argumentative essay at B2) |
| 10–12 | Full mocks & polish | Two full timed mock exams with a partner or teacher for the oral; review recurring grammar errors |
