About the Event

De 1604 à 1607, Samuel de Champlain a séjourné en Acadie, d’abord sur l’île Sainte-Croix (Maine), puis à Port-Royal (Nouvelle-Écosse). Il a exploré et cartographié le littoral de la Nouvelle-Angleterre, et il a noué des alliances avec les populations autochtones. Il a vécu là ses premiers hivers nord-américains et y a appris à devenir un meneur d’hommes. Son expérience acquise en  participant à la création de l’Acadie française lui sera fort utile lorsqu’il fondera Québec en 1608.

Eric Thierry is a French historian, specialized in New France history and travel literature. He published in 2019 a critical review of the complete writings of Samuel de Champlain, and will be publishing his biography this May.
